On the track of the European Mink in Marsac!
On Saturday, February 5, 2022 in Marsac, an unusual procession of about thirty people walked along the banks of the Charente. At its head, Alexandre Dutrey of Charente Nature advised his audience “We are on the territory of the European mink, be careful with the clues that we could find on the way”.
A pike spawning ground restored in Jarnac !
Within the framework of the LIFE VISON program, a pike spawning ground (a heritage species of our rivers) was restored at the end of 2021, thus allowing the restoration of the functionality of wetlands favorable to the European Mink. This operation was carried out with the technical assistance of the Charente Fishing Federation.
Restoration of wet meadows in Charente !
Restoration work on tall grass wetlands, habitats suitable for European mink, began in the Charente in August 2021. The municipality of Marsac wished to commit itself to the conservation of the most endangered small carnivore in Europe.
Two other mink equipped with radio tracking transmitters in the last few days
The capture campaigns for the implantation of transmitters for telemetric monitoring are continuing successfully. Two other male European mink have just been equipped in the last few days.
New data thanks to radio-tracking campaings!
Since October 2020, four European mink are monitored by radio-tracking. These trackings aim to collect additional data on the ecology of the species: size and location of home ranges, spatial and temporal mobility, types of daytime roosts used according to the seasons, and for females, behavior during gestation and at the time of calving. The data collected to date are already rich in information.

The resumption of the capture campaigns of European mink on the Charente river upstream of Angoulême has been successful! The LIFE VISON teams have indeed captured two new individuals.
A citizen science project to save the European mink!
In order to detect new European mink, the LIFE teams have set up a citizen science project open to all!
The communities are committed to the European mink!
Two local authorities have joined forces with the teams of the European LIFE VISON program to work towards the preservation of the European mink, associated species and their habitats.
They are mobilizing in favor of the European mink!
In order to preserve habitats favorable to the European mink and associated species, private and public landowners voluntarily engage in the LIFE VISON program!

It is a carnivorous mammal belonging to the Mustelidae family. It is classified as “critically endangered” according to IUCN’s Red List of threatened species.
