Two European mink, already known to LIFE VISON teams, were able to be equipped with a radio tracking transmitter. The objective? Follow these individuals in order to locate their daily resting places and their hunting sites.[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.3.4&#8243; text_font=&#8221;Open Sans||||||||&#8221; text_text_color=&#8221;#363636&#8243; text_font_size=&#8221;20&#8243; header_2_font=&#8221;Oswald||||||||&#8221; header_2_font_size=&#8221;24px&#8221; background_size=&#8221;initial&#8221; background_position=&#8221;top_left&#8221; background_repeat=&#8221;repeat&#8221; max_width=&#8221;620px&#8221; custom_margin=&#8221;30px||0px|&#8221; text_font_size_tablet=&#8221;&#8221; text_font_size_phone=&#8221;&#8221; text_font_size_last_edited=&#8221;on|tablet&#8221; use_border_color=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>\u00ab Popeye \u00bb and \u00ab Badu \u00bb, the first European minks of the LIFE VISON followed by radio tracking<\/h2>\n<p>The capture campaigns launched in January and February in the two identified population sectors, allowed the recapture of four male mink already marked.<\/p>\n<p>Two of them, in particularly good condition, were chosen to be equipped with a transmitter: the mink Popeye (marked in March 2019) in the Rochefort marshes, and the mink Badu (marked in November 2018) on the Charente valley upstream of Angoul\u00eame. The data collected by telemetry will make it possible to know the size of their home ranges, to precisely characterize the daytime roosts used for their rest, but also to map the environments exploited during the hunting phases thanks to night activity monitoring.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Suivi t\u00e9l\u00e9m\u00e9trique du vison d\u2019Europe \u00ab Popeye \u00bb dans le cadre du LIFE VISON\" width=\"1080\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/88t77IPfMII?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>First results rich in lessons<\/h2>\n<p>The daily monitoring undertaken for several weeks shows that Popeye and Badu are very active during this rutting period, and regularly travel great distances, giving our teams a hard time. For example, Badu, whose home range already extends for almost 25 km along the Charente river, covers it entirely in 2 to 3 days, with some stages of ten kilometers between two consecutive lodgings.
